Gone Away

As I write this, we're on the far side of the 'anniversary' of one of the most tragic events in the history of Man. 9-11 made us all realize that, just because we live in "the land of the free and the home of the brave", that doesn't give us the grace to believe we're untouchable. Our borders can be, and have been, breached. We're a target for any group with the organization, the firepower, and the hatred to take us by surprise. 9-11 told us, Hey, we're not invincible.

The saddest part of that day for me was knowing how much unnecessary death and destruction took place in the span of a few minutes. I wondered how the passengers on those planes felt when they realized their lives were almost over. I wondered if I would have been as brave as those people in the Twin Towers were, jumping to certain death or waiting for the fires to claim them. How many men/husbands/fathers/sons/brothers/uncles/friends had perished, knowing they weren't getting out alive. How many women/wives/mothers/daughters/sisters/aunts/friends left this world afraid, not yet ready for the next one.

How many families waited for word from their loved ones, for hours, days, weeks, months...then stopped hoping altogether because to continue hoping was futile, painful, a denial of the horrendous reality.

My sympathies lie not with our government, but with the real heroes: the ones who gave their lives--unwillingly--because of hatred, envy, control.

Makes me look at this blog and wonder how some can be so wicked and cruel to others when things like 9-11 happen. Our generation's equivalent of Pearl Harbor should teach us lessons, not create more cruelty.

Goodnight, and God bless.

As I walk through
This wicked world
Searchin for light in the darkness of insanity.
I ask myself
Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?
And each time I feel like this inside,
Theres one thing I wanna know:
Whats so funny bout peace love & understanding?
ohhhh
Whats so funny bout peace love & understanding?

And as I walked on
Through troubled times
My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes
So where are the strong
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony.
Cause each time I feel it slippin away, just makes me wanna cry.
Whats so funny bout peace love & understanding?
ohhhh
Whats so funny bout peace love & understanding?

So where are the strong?
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony.
Cause each time I feel it slippin away, just makes me wanna cry.
Whats so funny bout peace love & understanding?
ohhhh
Whats so funny bout peace love & understanding?
ohhhh
Whats so funny bout peace love & understanding?

Peace, Love, and Understanding
